Title:Work in Islam Category:General Source:Dr. Fatima al Ali,2018   Description:Work is a universal moral value
Work is a universal moral value, a vital humanitarian virtue, and one of the main factors for the continuity of human life. Besides, it has an integrated vision from the perspective of Islam and a spiritual and moral signification that transcends the degrees of civilizational visions . Quran verses have dealt with different forms of the concept of work through different derivatives and different logical contexts that highlight the fields of work, which are endless if integrated with their specific linguistic meaning in profession and practice. The Prophets and Messengers were also working in crafts and trade alongside their heavenly mission, which made work in Islam encompass all meaningful human activity, whether manually, mentally, artistically or administratively, individually or institutionally, since the movement in man does not emanate from only the body, but from the body, mind, and spirit combined . The message of Islam in general is a message of work in its material and spiritual dimensions. God says “Say, "Work. God will see your work, and so will His Messenger, and the believers.  Then you will be returned to the Knower of secrets and declarations, and He will inform you of what you used to do”. It is an invitation to contribute to reconstructing the earth and building civilizations for the benefit of man and his surroundings . Whatever amount of work is appreciated. The Almighty says, “Whoever has done an atom's weight of good will see it.”  Provided that it is based on the principles of goodness and benefits, to ensure charity work, which is measured mainly by the extent of its attachment to universal values and pure intentions. The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Actions are to be judged only by intentions and a man will have only what he intended .” The conclusion of the previous concepts reflects the great status of work in Islam coupled with faith as in the verse:  “For those who believe and do righteous deeds-for them is happiness and a beautiful return.”  Moreover, the act is a proof of faith as evidence of what was said of the Prophet (PBUH), "What is the best deed?" He replied, "To believe in Allah and His Apostle (Muhammad) .” Work has an ethical value and a human significance based on love, respect and appreciation.  These values are reflected through faithfulness and proficiency while working. God says, “Verily, Allah has prescribed proficiency in all things.” The Prophet (PBUH) also said regarding proficiency while dealing with others: "May Allah show mercy to a man who adopts a kind attitude when he sells, buys and demands for the repayment of loans." So that relationships are built based on compassion, interdependence and tolerance .   The concept of work in Islam is not limited to self-realization and understanding the meaning of life by employing individual's professional abilities, but by voluntarily committing sincerity, honoring the workmanship, and complying with spiritual and material values which dimensions go beyond one’s own benefit to the public one, which then results in satisfaction and happiness .
