Title:Islam & Cohesion Category:General Source:Dr. Fatima al Ali,2019   Description:Islam is the religion of compassion and cohesion
Islam as the religion of compassion and cohesion, cares for the state and need of people through its call for rapport and cooperation between the members of society to be as solid as the bricks of a building that hold fast to one another.
Thus, comes the assertion of the verses of the Qur’an; as God says ‘And hold fast by the covenant of Allah all together and be not disunited, and remember the favor of Allah on you when you were enemies, then He united your hearts so by His favor you became brethren; and you were on the brink of a pit of fire, then He saved you from it, thus does Allah make clear to you His communications that you may follow the right way’. 3: 103.
Moreover, Islam urges its followers to form a social contract based on fraternity with the aim to establish community building through mutual responsibility that would positively reflect on individual conduct and social coherence.
Islam also enjoins fraternity to establish community building and coherence. God says, ‘Verily, this community of yours is one community and I am your Lord, so worship ME’. 21: 92. This is not only a call for solidarity, but also a call for collaboration equally supported by the hadith ‘He who meets the needs of a fellow Muslim, God will meet his needs and he who relieves a fellow Muslim from hardship, God will relieve him from the hardships of the Day of Reckoning …’ Sahih Muslim: 2580.
Other commandments in Islam are not only prayers in congregation, Alms giving, pilgrimage etc. but also collaboration, charity, aid to neighbors, relatives and poor, sponsoring orphans, and family and community solidarity. Which shows the extent of emphasis Islam puts on coherence to lay its foundation so that the Muslim community would enjoy love, rapport, compassion, tolerance and justice.
