Title:Good Company Category:General Source:Dr. Fatima al Ali,2019   Description:God created human sociable by nature
As God created human sociable by nature, each one of us seeks for a friend for consolation and company in joys and sorrows. And as friendship is the peak of human relations, one must choose their friend carefully though.
For a coherent and collaborative society, it is significant in Islam to choose friends with caution as to accompany only the good ones for the benefit reflected in counselling, cooperation, amicability, honesty, sacrifice and forgiving. God says, ‘The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers, practise regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise’. (Al-Tawba,71). Thus, there comes up a cohesive, solid and collaborative society.
Moreover, the messenger (PBUH) urges us to be mindful when choosing friends, for the contagious effect of friendship. He says, ‘As one follows their friend’s religion, one should be careful who they take for friends.’ [At-Tirmidhī and Abu Dawud].
The Messenger (PBUH) also rightly explains, ‘the comparison of a good companion with a bad one, is that of the musk seller and the blacksmith's bellows: from the first you would either buy musk or enjoy its good smell, while the bellows would either burn your clothes, or you get a bad smell thereof."
Truly, a good friend is like the musk seller, with all good that comes out in words and deeds effectively reflect on the Day of Judgment. God says, ‘Friends on that Day will be foes, one to another, except the Righteous’. (Az-Zukhruf,67)
While the bad companion (of the bellows) affects you with bad deeds, disobedience and regretfully, rejects you on the Day of Judgement. God says, ‘On that day the wrongdoer will bite his hands and will say, `O, would that I had taken a way along with the Messenger! `O, woe is me! Would that I had never taken such a one for a friend!’ 25: 27-28.
In conclusion, friendship is one of the main influences in human life, if it is a good one; it will overflow with all the good and blessing leading to Paradise.
