Title:A prophetic Lesson in Tolerance Category:General Source:Dr. Fatima al Ali,2019   Description:Forgiveness is one of the characteristics of the great and wise.
Forgiveness is one of the characteristics of the great and wise. The Messenger (PBUH) set the best example with regard to tolerance, forgiveness and benevolence against wrongdoing. The Conquest of Makkah and his forgiveness of its dwellers could be not only a good historical example in this regard but also the greatest lesson ever established by the Prophet (PBUH) when he dominated Makkah in the 8th AH. The Prophet forgave those who did him and his companions wrong, expelled and made life difficult for them.  However, when he had the upper hand as a conqueror and the former aggressors as prisoners of war before him, he set them free despite all the atrocities they committed. What an everlasting lesson and a sublime self, so immune from hatred to realize the verse from the Qur’an ‘…You shall resort to the nicest possible response. Thus, the one who used to be your enemy may become your best friend’. (Surah Fussilat: 34) . Moreover, the Prophet (PBUH) assured them with security they needed as he said, ‘he who enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe, he who lays down arms is safe, and he who closes his door is safe’. (Sahih Muslim) . By far, this was an unprecedented event of forgiveness throughout history; largely attracted the people of Makkah thereafter to embrace Islam of their own volition . Forgiving those who have done us wrong is not easy; it is the biggest challenge to examine human determination, in expectation of the Almighty’s forgiveness. Though it is unattainable except for those who are strong both in faith and in will, are you one of them ?
